Refugee Integration: A Worthwhile Investment

Meet the team leaders: Rachel Sharp

As part of our new video series, Meet the team leaders, we are interviewing our staff so you can get to know them better! This month we talked with Rachel Sharp who heads up our Support and Integration team and has been with ACH for around 6 and a half years!

Language as a component of integration

On 16th April, ACH and Migration Mobilities Bristol (MMB, University of Bristol) hosted the third of our joint workshops, this time on the topic of Language. Tom Dixon, Senior Project Officer and Rachel Sharp, Support and Integration Team Leader presented from ACH and Pier-Luc Dupont from MMB. The audience was made of academics from various universities across the South West and Wales.

Refugee Entrepreneurship: Overcoming the Odds

Entrepreneurship offers a route to independence. Experience has shown that refugee entrepreneurs make terrific community leaders, despite considerable hardships. In the face of language barriers, culture shock and funding complications, refugees are going above and beyond to found their own startups and businesses.

Landlords needed in the West of England

On 2nd April 2019 we exhibited once again at the annual South West Landlord Expo at UWE, the largest event for private landlords and property agents in the South West.

The importance of collaboration

On the 3rd April, Lydia Samuel, ACH Entrepreneurship Facilitator, was invited to speak alongside Professor Monder Ram and Dr Gerardo Arriaga of CREME, based at Aston University, on the ‘Process and Impact’ of projects engaged with migrant businesses and entrepreneurs.

Employment and Economic Opportunity for Refugees and Migrants

Employment and economic opportunity were the topics of the latest ACH / Himilo and MMB (Migration Mobilities Bristol) collaborative workshop on topics relevant to refugees and migrants. This was held on 26th March at the University of Bristol.

Meet Rob

Rob has recently joined our Bristol Careers team as a Job Coach after previously working as a teacher and volunteering at a refugee camp in Athens. Read more about him in our meet the team interview.

Give2Grow energy workshop

On the 21st March, ACH collaborated with Give2Grow to put on an event with discussion, workshops and a meal. I led a workshop for our Energy Project, funded by Bristol Community Energy Fund.
