Meet Rob
What did you do before coming to ACH?
After six years of teaching in secondary schools, I moved to Athens to volunteer in the city’s main refugee camp. Working with the community-building group Project Elea, I ran a science summer school for the children living on the camp, then headed a programme of social and skill-building activities for younger adults.
Why did you decide to come to ACH?
I am a big fan of the work ACH is doing to support refugees and less advantaged people in my city. So when a job came up in their careers team, I leapt at the chance.
What project are you working on for us?
As a Job Coach, I get to help people find work that best matches their skills, talents and passions. It’s not just about getting individuals out of unemployment but it's about empowering them to seek out meaningful careers – ones that will allow them to grow and to get the most out of their work.
What is it that you want to achieve?
I want to improve the quality of careers and educational support available in my city and improve the ways we and other organisations collaborate to give the best support we can.
What are you hoping to gain from ACH?
I want to make the most of my work here to make the best difference I can. If I get to know some great people and improve my languages along the way, even better.
What is the proudest moment in your career?
Running the science summer school for the children on Eleonas Refugee Camp, then seeing all the students go on to enter mainstream education – and enjoy it too!
