Speaking on his experience of moving to the UK from Somalia, Fuad called on the local and national government to consider how we can empower our community organisations and leaders who are playing a big part in welcoming newly arrived people from Ukraine.  

He also called on policy makers to think about how we can harness the skills that newly arrived people bring and how we can work with businesses and the private sector to help people into employment or start their own business.

ACH CEO Fuad Mahamed spoke to BBC Breakfast about his own experience coming to the UK as a refugee, and made the case for more support for newly arrived refugees from Ukraine.

Fuad Mahamed, ACH's CEO, spoke on Channel 4's 'Ukraine: Should We Do More?', a live debate on the heart breaking situation in Ukraine on Tuesday evening. 

Fuad highlighted the need to strengthen the UK's commitment to refugees, saying: 'Under the Geneva Convention, all refugees, doesn't matter what colour, what faith, what gender, have to all get the same treatment'.

ACH, a social enterprise specialising in renovating homes to house refugees as well as providing support and integration services, has urged people with second homes and private landlords to step forward and work with them to bring empty homes back into use.

“It’s a win, win, win,” ACH founder Fuad Mahamed told The Big Issue. “This is the time to appeal to landlords with available properties and to appeal to people with second homes to work with social landlords, local governments, people like us to bring their property back to use.
