UK GENERAL ELECTION 2024: A Call for Policy Change and Support for Refugee Integration

Yesterday, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that the general election will take place on the 4th of July. He also mentioned that no Rwanda flights will take off before the election, with departures expected to begin in July. While the potential resumption of these flights remains a source of concern, there is some hope.

The next government must urgently address the barriers to integration and prioritise the safety and freedom of legitimate refugees, rather than returning them to environments where they are at risk.

This upcoming election offers us an opportunity for policy change and a new direction, we should consider how our individual votes can positively address the pressing issues in the refugee and migrant sectors.

We urge the British electorate to stand in solidarity with those seeking safety and continue to advocate for policies that support refugee integration. Now is the time to select leaders who are committed to ending the housing crisis, homelessness and managing migration both practically and compassionately.

We need clear priorities and policies that promote comprehensive support systems, bearing in mind that behind every poor policy decision, breaking news story or statistic, there are real human lives at stake.
