Reuniting families: Nehzat’s journey in Wolverhampton
When Nehzat arrived in the UK as a refugee from Iran in May 2022, she felt overwhelmed by the challenges ahead. She had a vocational diploma in beauty therapy and food hygiene, as well as years of professional experience, but her qualifications were not recognised in the UK. To make matters worse, her limited English skills and unfamiliarity with the job market left her feeling very uncertain about what her future might look like in this new country. However, things changed when Nehzat eventually got connected with ACH Wolverhampton.
At ACH, we understand how it feels to be lost and how important it is for individuals to feel supported, especially when navigating new environments. Nehzat’s experience with us was no different. From day one, our dedicated team provided her with one-on-one guidance and connected her with focus groups and social activities aimed at helping her rebuild her confidence.
Through our support, Nehzat enrolled in an ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) course, improving her communication skills and boosting her self-esteem. Additionally, Nehzat began volunteering at the St. Chad and St. Mark Church kitchen, where she found fulfilment in preparing delicious Asian cuisines for other refugees. This opportunity not only helped her give back to the community, but it also allowed her to develop her skills further while building connections with others.
Perhaps the most transformative moment for Nehzat was reuniting with her husband after months of separation. This milestone brought an immense sense of relief and joy. "Having him here gives me strength as I work toward a better future," Nehzat shares. The emotional support and companionship of her husband have been invaluable as she continues her journey of rebuilding her life in the UK.
For most people, the emotional toll of being separated from loved ones can be tough. Through ACH’s services, Nehzat was able to overcome the complex and overwhelming process of settling into the UK and also reuniting with her family.
As Nehzat looks ahead, she is filled with optimism. The guidance and resources provided by ACH Wolverhampton have helped her develop a clear plan for her future. “Thanks to the support I received from ACH, I no longer feel lost. I now have a clearer path forward,” Nehzat says.
She is committed to continuing her education by pursuing additional vocational qualifications, aiming to gain UK certifications that will allow her to become a professional beauty therapist and food hygiene specialist in the UK. She is eager to add value with her skills. With her growing confidence, enhanced English language skills, and a strong foundation of support from ACH, Nehzat is not only rebuilding her career but also creating a stable, hopeful future for herself and her family.
