Meet the board: Abdi Mohamed
Every month we will be introducing a new board member of Ashley Community Housing. This month it's the turn of Abdi Mohamed, company secretary.
I’m Abdi Mohamed, company secretary. I’ve been the company secretary for the past two and a half years. I knew Ashley Community Housing before, through the community because I knew Fuad in different community projects, so that’s why I came to know ACH.
Why and when did you choose to become a board member for ACH?
It was 2 and a half years ago and as I said earlier, I knew the work that ACH does for the community, especially refugee communities. It’s something that I am very passionate about. I have worked with refugee communities as well, so delivering after school clubs to developmental projects, capacity building projects for small organisations and it’s something I have extensive experience in. More importantly, something that drives ACH, I would say above all is the empathy and it’s something that actually we return to the community.
What do you think you’ve contributed to the board?
I’ve contributed to the board as secretary; I’m required to make sure the company maintains a high standard of corporate governance, update the policies, promoting the image of the company. Sometimes I act as a point of communication between the board of directors and members, and sometimes the executive management. So, to make sure that we maintain up to date policies and high governance is very crucial to the business, so that’s my role.
What are your future aspirations personally and with ACH?
I would like to see ACH to be not one of the leading directors, but THE leading refugee organisations for the UK as well as in Europe.
