Local businesses engage with young refugees
Our latest UK Youth ‘Youth Action’ course took place on 13th – 17th August 2018. The aim of the programme is to help young refugees into employment by teaching them life skills through employability training. After the success of the first course, we were excited to partner up again with UK Youth to deliver another course. This time we had 10 learners between the ages of 16 and 25.
The course was a huge success and the learners’ confidence grew tremendously thanks to the impactful work of Jane, the tutor. They ended the week by running a fundraising coffee morning which raised £72 to go towards helping Docklands, the venue used to host the course.
Then, on the following Monday, we were lucky enough to have the support from several Bristol businesses and charities who volunteered their time to talk with our learners at our employer day. The employer day was an opportunity for our learners to find out about employment, volunteering and support help in the local area.
A huge thank you to Square Food Foundation, Catch 22, Babbasa, Boston Tea Party and Abdi from Macmillan Cancer Support for taking the time out to engage with our learners and inspire them to take the next step towards their future careers.
