Fire safety workshops
We take the safety of our tenants and staff very seriously. We make sure we keep on top of health and safety practices and regularly update our policies to ensure the wellbeing of both the people we work with and those who work for us.
On 30th November we were pleased to host representatives from Avon Fire and Rescue Service, who came to teach staff and tenants about fire safety. Our housing team carry out regular checks on our properties to test the fire alarms and look for any signs of damage from plugs or electrical items, so we are confident our properties are safe in that regard. However, a fire can start at any time for a number of different reasons which can normally be prevented. The team did a great job in highlighting common issues when it comes to preventing a fire, including not over-loading plugs, keeping radiators clear of flammable materials and cooking safely.
They also gave important tips for how to stay safe if a fire does happen, and the protocol which should be followed. This included how to contact the fire department, keeping fire doors shut and what to do in an emergency.
It was a very informative session, and our tenants and staff learnt a lot about fire safety. We aim to continue these sessions and are now in the process of arranging joint house visits from the Avon Fire and Rescue Service and ACH to inspect the houses and provide advice and guidance to tenants of fire safety tips, as we continue to make this important issue a priority.
